Honours in Curatorship

Training

Conservation Week, 26 - 30 May 2014

In May 2014 Iziko SA National Gallery, in collaboration with the Centre for Curating the Archive at UCT, hosted Conservation Week for 14 Honours in Curatorship students. The programme included preventive conservation, control of environment, and examination of art works and their handling. Paintings on canvas, works on paper, sculpture and frames were discussed in relation to practical examples. Seven invited professional conservators participated, together with Iziko staff. This programme was aimed at the Honours in Curatorship students but the opportunity to attend was also extended to Iziko collections staff, volunteers and interns. The programme formed part of UCT/Iziko Honours in Curatorship course funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
